Wildfire Prevention & Recovery Services
Recovering Land from a Wildfire
The immediate need following a wildfire is to prevent the permanent loss of land and habitat for native flora and fauna. Tree, underbrush and grasses function to keep soil in place on the land; however, erosion reduces topsoil which can cause roots of surviving trees and vegetation to die. Additionally, severe soil erosion and water runoff can cause ash, soil and other damaged vegetation to wash into lakes, streams and creeks, negatively impacting aquatic life and water quality.
At Cedar Eaters, our wildfire recovery efforts begin with land clearing and salvaging trees and underbrush less impacted by fire. We have a fleet of Tigercat and Fecon timber mulchers we use to clear burnt or dead vegetation after a devastating wildfire. The mulch left behind adds nourishing organic nutrients back into the ground that has been stripped of all-natural nutrients, aiding in a speedy recovery process. To further minimize soil disturbance and erosion on rocky slopes normally inaccessible to mulching equipment our hand crews create brush rows out of the affected burnt vegetation. These rows are laid horizontally to the hillside in an alternating pattern to prevent water during heavy rains from washing away soil and earth.
Restoration and Regrowth After a Wildfire
Sometimes fire-damaged lands will not recover naturally without intervention. While forestry mulching after a wildfire can help restabilize land, we can help you with the next steps in wildfire rehabilitation. We work closely with leading seeding companies to make recommendations on native grasses and vegetation to promote and support long-term recovery.
Wildfire Recovery & Rehab FAQs
Here are some frequent questions that we receive regarding our wildfire recovery and rehabilitation services.
See the Difference Wildfire Recovery Makes
See how we helped Bastrop, Texas recover after the devastating wildfires with forestry mulching and land clearing in 2011 by creating land rows to protect damaged lands from soil erosion. We dispersed a layer of mulch to add back nutrient-rich compounds to the land, stimulating healthy regrowth of the forest.
